Sefton Council has confirmed that the much-loved Salt and Tar Music Weekender will return for its fourth year in August 2026, bringing another vibrant mix of live music and entertainment to Bootle.
Kicking off the four-day festival in style, internationally acclaimed folk-rock legends The Waterboys will take to the stage on Friday 14 August. Famed for their timeless anthems including The Whole of the Moon, the band has enjoyed a remarkable four-decade career and continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Since its launch, the Salt and Tar Music Weekender has grown into one of the region’s standout summer events, drawing almost 12,000 visitors to Bootle in 2025. With a reputation for its buzzing atmosphere and stellar line-ups, the festival has previously welcomed stars such as Tom Jones, Billy Ocean and Ocean Colour Scene, cementing its place as a highlight of Merseyside’s cultural calendar.
Further headline acts and full festival details will be revealed in the coming months. Pre-sale tickets for The Waterboyswill be available on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 November, ahead of General Sale on Friday 7 November.

The Music Weekender forms a key part of Sefton Council’s ongoing regeneration plans for Bootle, helping to boost local businesses, attract visitors and create new opportunities for residents.
