Music Industry Careers Fest heads Liverpool Philharmonic

  • January 12, 2023
  • Editor

Liverpool Philharmonic will present its annual Music Industry Careers Fest, curated in partnership with LIMF Academy, on Sunday 26 February, from midday until 5pm.

This inspiring event offers young people aged 14-21 the chance to learn more about careers in music, network with leading industry professionals and meet other like-minded people.

The day will include workshops on lighting design and sound mixing, how to get started as performing musician (with speakers from Royal Northern College of Music and freelance musicians), how to release your own music (with speakers from Spotify, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and Ditto Music), how to design a concert, and more!

There will also be a marketplace of stalls with representatives from organisations including LIPA, University of Liverpool, Ad Lib, The Ivors Academy, Royal Northern College of Music, and Blackfest. Refreshments provided free of charge during the day, as well as a pizza lunch!

Nieve, a member of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, has attended Careers Fest for many years. She said:

“I enjoy attending Careers Fests because they inform me of the different musical careers available to young musicians like myself and other musicians from all walks of life. Particularly because I come from a non-musical background, the event helped me see just how many jobs and opportunities were available out there.

Thanks to Careers Fest, I realised that my main instrument, the cello, was not just limited to solo and orchestral performances. I have since had the chance to work with bands, string quartets in weddings, musical theatre show-bands, private party venues and some amateur orchestras, to name but a few!

I also work at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall as a Steward, which is another fantastic career in the music industry, and a very important one to ensure everyone can have access to music venues safely and enjoyably.

I have been attending Careers Fest events since I was thirteen years old, and I sincerely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t had the chance to experience one yet, because they make you realise there is so much more to the music industry than what you first thought.”

In the evening, Liverpool Philharmonic’s exciting Youth Session Orchestra will team up with LIMF Academy artists Ni Maxine, Amber Jay, Lazygirl and Micayl for the ‘LIMF Academy Orchestrated’ concert, performing specially arranged, cross-genre original music and covers.

Peter Garden, Executive Director – Performance and Learning at Liverpool Philharmonic, said:

“We’re excited to be partnering with LIMF Academy to present this fantastic opportunity for young people to find out more about the possibilities of a career in the music industry from leading figures in the business.“Last year Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Session Orchestra’s collaboration with LIMF Academy artists raised the roof of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and we are looking forward to another spectacular concert showcasing these talented young musicians. We are very grateful to LIMF Academy and its superb artists for partnering with us again this year.”

Yaw Owusu, Programme Director for LIMF Academy, said:

“It’s an honour to be working closely again with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company on their Careers Day programme. The opportunity for a wide range of emerging music creators and musicians to learn from experts and each other is so vital in the development of talent in our city. We are extremely excited to also be able to collaborate on the LIMF Academy orchestrated element of the programme too – which will see some of the most talented solo artists from our cohort perform with the youth session orchestra. It is going to be great!”
