Merseyrail travel information for LFC victory parade

A victory parade will take place in central Liverpool on Sunday 29th May and Merseyrail have put arrangements in place to take you right to the heart of the action.

Saturday 28th May

On the day of the Champions League final, a normal timetable will run with frequent services throughout the day.

Merseyrail trains are expected to be very busy and special arrangements are in place to help passengers to safely travel on the network.

James Street and Lime Street low level stations will be closed from 16:00 to manage passenger numbers, Liverpool Central and Moorfields stations will remain open. Green Lane and Bromborough Rake stations will be closed all day.

Passengers are advised to check train times before they travel on the last services, which are expected to be very busy especially if the match is extended through extra time or penalties.  There are also likely to be queues at Liverpool Central and Moorfields stations as many passengers try to travel home before services end for the day.

Sunday 29th May

A 30-minute service will run with some changes to train times. Due to the large crowds expected, the following stations will be closed all day:

  • Lime Street Lower Level
  • James Street
  • Green Lane
  • Bromborough Rake
  • Capenhurst

In addition, Northern line trains will call at Moorfields only and Wirral line trains will call at Liverpool Central only, helping to manage passenger flows through both stations. Six-car trains will run wherever possible.

Passenger Travel Advice

Passengers are advised to plan their journey in advance by visiting the Merseyrail website for timetable information.

If possible, tickets should be purchased in advance from any Merseyrail station to avoid queues on the day of the final or the parade. Passengers purchasing tickets from 3rd party online retailers must make sure their tickets are printed from a station in advance of travel.

Those travelling into the city by rail are strongly advised to purchase a return ticket before travelling to the parade to help reduce queuing times later in the day. It is also recommended that extra time is allowed by anyone making a journey.

While passengers are encouraged to enjoy the match and subsequent celebrations as much as possible, Merseyrail operates a TravelSafe policy and passengers are advised that if anyone is deemed unfit to travel due to excessive alcohol consumption, they may be refused access to the Merseyrail network.
