Liverpool’s Annual Pancake Race returns this March. The annual race, traditionally held in the gardens of Liverpool Parish Church, sees chefs from the city’s top restaurants compete in a battle of life and batter, as they compete to be crowned top flipper.
In an audacious move, in fact it’s egg-traordinary, Lunya’s Alex Hopkins has entered the race, his fourth annual entry and he secured a hattrick in 2024.

Nine restaurants have, so far, signed up to take part in the race including; Titanic Hotel/ Stanley’s Bar and Grill, Ma Boyles, Nova Scotia, Tempest on the Tithebarn, Hotel Indigo, Pullman Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Bunch Wine Bar, Maldron, The Pen Factory, Lunya, LunyaLita.
The rules of the race are simple. Each chef must make a pancake in advance and must complete two laps of the garden while also flipping the pancake. There can be no inference of any other chefs’ pancakes, or their running.
First launched in the 1980s, it was revived in the 2000s in Liverpool and is no yolk for the chefs who take part. Alongside bragging rights, the winning chef is awarded with an engraved pancake pan, presented by the Rector of Liverpool.
