Liverpool is set for a huge weekend of sport and entertainment, with thousands expected to descend on the city for a packed ‘Super Saturday’ of events on Saturday 1 November.
Residents and visitors are being urged to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra time for travel, as several major events take place across the city throughout the day and into the evening.
The line-up includes:
- Rugby League Ashes: England v Australia – Hill Dickinson Stadium, 2:30pm
- Gladiators Live – M&S Bank Arena, 11:30am & 5:30pm
- River of Light – Waterfront, 5pm–10pm
- Liverpool FC v Aston Villa – Anfield, 8pm
England v Australia – Rugby League Ashes at Hill Dickinson Stadium
The historic Rugby League Ashes series returns as England take on Australia at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Fans are advised to plan ahead and travel early, making full use of Liverpool’s extensive public transport links:
- Rail: Sandhills is the nearest Merseyrail station, with crowd management systems and extra entrances in place. Moorfields and Bank Hall stations are also within walking distance and can help ease congestion.
- Walking, Cycling & Scooters: The stadium is easily accessible on foot or by bike from the city centre. Safe walking routes and cycle parking are available, though cyclists and scooter users should dismount in any closed-off areas.
- Parking: Strict parking controls will be enforced around the stadium. A Match Parking Zone extends to a 30-minute walk radius, with permit-only parking and active enforcement. There is no matchday parking at the stadium, so fans driving into the city are encouraged to use central car parks or transport hubs and connect via shuttle buses or trains.
Blue Badge holders may park in permit areas if displaying their badge clearly and avoiding obstructions or loading restrictions.
Travel updates and guidance can be found on Everton FC’s Travel Hub or Merseyrail’s travel information page.
Gladiators Live – M&S Bank Arena
The new generation of UK TV’s Gladiators are ready to take to the stage with two high-energy shows at 11:30am and 5:30pm. Expect the fan-favourite events and plenty of family excitement.
The M&S Bank Arena is within easy walking distance of city centre train stations. Travel details and visitor information are available via their website.
River of Light – Liverpool Waterfront
The city’s much-loved River of Light returns, illuminating a 3km trail of stunning light installations across Royal Albert Dock, the Pier Head, Exchange Flags and Liverpool ONE.
The event runs from 5pm to 10pm, giving visitors attending other events plenty of time to experience the dazzling displays.
Nearest stations include Moorfields (Wirral and Northern Line) and James Street (Wirral Line). For those arriving by National Rail, Liverpool Lime Street is around a 15-minute walk from the waterfront, or you can hop on the Merseyrail underground service.
Visit the Merseytravel website for the latest transport updates, and check the River of Light website or @visitliverpoolon social media for the full artwork list, maps, and FAQs.
Road Closures
To keep the area safe and accessible, several road closures will be in effect:
- Pier Head: Closed 6pm–10pm (limited access via St Nicholas Place for businesses, residents, workers, and disabled parking only). No access via Brunswick Street (exit only).
- Royal Albert Dock (Salthouse Quay): Closed 6pm–10pm.
With such a full day of activity, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, travel smart, and enjoy everything Liverpool has to offer on this truly super Saturday.
