Liverpool John Lennon Airport records busiest ever month as passenger numbers top 650,000

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has recorded its busiest month ever, with more than 650,000 passengers travelling through the airport during August.

The latest figures show passenger numbers were 6% higher than August 2025, beating the previous monthly record set last year and rounding off what has been the airport’s busiest summer on record.

Travellers from across the North West and North Wales used Liverpool John Lennon Airport throughout the month, as demand for flights from the city continued to grow.

More than 4,000 flights operated from Liverpool during August, serving 80 destinations across 25 countries.

Summer sunshine proved particularly popular, with seven of the airport’s 10 busiest routes serving traditional holiday destinations.

However, the airport’s busiest route was closer to home, with Dublin taking the top spot.

Among the most popular Mediterranean destinations were Alicante, Palma, Malaga and Faro, highlighting the continued popularity of Spanish and Portuguese sunshine routes with passengers travelling from Liverpool.

The record-breaking August follows continued growth at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, with an expanding choice of destinations helping attract increasing numbers of passengers from across the wider region.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR & Communications commented:

“This is a further milestone for the airport and achieved despite 2026 being a challenging year so far for the aviation industry.

As well as continuing to increase passenger numbers, everyone here has been working hard over the summer to ensure that our passengers continue to have a great experience too, continuing to give passengers the faster, easier, friendlier journey through the airport that we are renowned for.”
