Liverpool John Lennon Airport gears up for busy Christmas & New Year getaways

  • December 21, 2022

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is gearing up once again for the traditional Christmas and New Year ‘getaway’, with around 120,000 passengers expected to pass through the Airport over the festive and New Year holiday period.

With most schools having finished for Christmas by tomorrow, lots of families from across the region are expected to head off on flights over the holiday period to a host of destinations direct from Liverpool.

Whilst business levels are still recovering and about 75% of pre-covid, this will be the Airport’s busiest Christmas and New Year period since before the pandemic in 2019. Flights will be operating to 52 destinations over the festive period with easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Loganair, plus with Lufthansa and Play airlines for the first time, who both started operating from Liverpool this year.

Passengers are expected to head off for some long overdue Winter sunshine, to go skiing or to meet up with friends and relatives, with popular destinations including Dublin, Belfast, Geneva, Alicante, Isle of Man, Malaga, Tenerife, Cork, Lanzarote, Amsterdam, Knock and Faro.

Passengers can continue to take advantage of Liverpool’s renowned Faster, Easier, Friendlier customer experience, but as always at this time of year, LJLA Management are keen to remind all passengers that restrictions on liquids carried in hand luggage are still in place and to think carefully about what items they are intending to pack in hand luggage, before they set off for the Airport – especially those who are travelling with presents for friends and relatives.

To avoid disappointment at the security search point and to help keep security queues to a minimum, passengers are being asked to travel with their presents unwrapped if they are to be carried in hand luggage.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for LJLA commented:

“This Christmas and New Year period is expected to be our busiest since pre-covid and it will be great once again at this time of year to see thousands of passengers from across the region taking advantage of the convenience of flying hassle free from Liverpool.

We pride ourselves for being faster, easier and friendlier, but would like to remind all passengers to always allow plenty of time when traveling to the airport, come prepared and think carefully about what they are carrying in their hand luggage.”
