Liverpool FC has launched its first-ever Champions League matchday programme artist series, featuring exclusive cover artwork inspired by the club’s heritage, supporters and iconic European nights at Anfield.
The project will see artists create bespoke cover designs for selected Champions League fixtures throughout the campaign, giving supporters the opportunity to collect a series of exclusive programmes.
The first artist edition will feature on the official matchday programme for Liverpool FC v Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
It will be available to purchase from Tuesday 8 September at the Anfield, Liverpool ONE and Williamson Square stores, as well as official programme sales points around the stadium from four hours before kick-off on matchday.
The first cover has been created exclusively for the programme by Liverpool-based artist Abigail Rudkin and is inspired by the club’s community spirit and the unique matchday experience at Anfield.
Rudkin’s signature expressive painting style celebrates the unmistakable energy and traditions of a European fixture at Anfield, with the flags and banners that have long formed an integral part of the matchday experience at the heart of the artwork.
Through bold brushwork and vibrant colours, Rudkin brings to life the visual spectacle created by supporters in the stands, celebrating the banners, colours and traditions that have become synonymous with Liverpool FC’s European matches.
Lee Dwerryhouse, senior vice president of merchandising, said:
“Matchday programmes have always been an important part of the supporter experience, and this artist collaboration gives us an exciting opportunity to create an additional collectible element for supporters while celebrating both Liverpool FC and its creative community.
“We’re delighted to be working with talented artists throughout the Champions League campaign and look forward to sharing their unique interpretations of Liverpool FC and these iconic European moments.”
Abigail Rudkin added:
“Creating this artwork was an incredibly special opportunity. I wanted to capture the atmosphere, colour and pride that make European matches at Anfield so memorable, drawing inspirationfrom the sea of flags and scarves that transform the stadium on matchdays and create such a unique visual identity.
“It’s been a privilege to produce a piece that will form part of supporters’ matchday experience, and I hope fans enjoy discovering all the details and stories woven into the artwork.”
The artist cover series has been developed to give supporters something extra to collect and treasure.
By bringing together football, art and creative talent, the initiative celebrates what makes Liverpool FC special both on and off the pitch.
Matchday Programmes are also available to buy online from the LFC retail store.
