Liverpool City Council is inviting children aged four to 16 to get creative and help name four brand-new road safety characters as part of a city-wide competition.
The competition, launched by Liverpool City Council’s Road Safety Team, gives young people the opportunity to name characters that will feature in educational campaigns and resources designed to help children stay safe on and around the city’s roads.

The four characters have already been styled with help from Liverpool schoolchildren and have been designed to reflect the diversity of young people across the city.
Each character will have their own personality and play an important role in delivering road safety messages in a fun, engaging and accessible way.
Although the characters will each have a primary way of travelling, such as walking, wheeling or being a car passenger, they will also appear in different situations to reflect the various ways children travel to school, activities and other destinations.
The characters will feature in upcoming interactive road safety campaigns, as well as educational materials including leaflets, booklets, banners and classroom resources.
These materials will be made available to teachers, parents, carers and youth leaders, helping children develop essential road safety skills from an early age.
By involving young people in naming the characters, Liverpool City Council hopes to encourage greater engagement with road safety education while giving children a sense of ownership over the new campaign.
How to enter the Liverpool road safety competition
The competition is open to children aged four to 16 living in Liverpool and the surrounding areas.
Entrants can suggest a name for their favourite character or submit names for all four.
Each entry must include the suggested name alongside a short explanation of why it has been chosen.
Entry forms are available from local schools and libraries or can be requested by emailing road.safety@liverpool.gov.uk.
The closing date for entries is Wednesday 4 November 2026.
Prizes and winners
Prizes will be awarded to the four winning entries, with a range of runner-up prizes also available.
The winners will be celebrated at a special prize-giving event at Liverpool Town Hall on Monday 30 November 2026 at 10am.
The competition offers children across Liverpool a chance to put their creativity to good use while helping to shape the future of road safety education in the city.
Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said:
“We want our road safety education to really resonate with young people, and who better to help us build these campaigns than the children themselves?
“I know that our young people are incredibly creative, and I can’t wait to see the imaginative names they come up with for our new characters. This competition is a fantastic, fun way to get people talking about road safety together.”
