With less than two weeks until the BTR Wirral 10K takes place, runners are being reminded to get on their marks for the last chance to register.

Event day is Sunday 12 October 2025, with the out-and-back race starting at 9.30am on Ian Fraser Walk at New Brighton.

The route heads past Fort Perch Rock and along the picturesque promenade to the 5K half-way turnaround point at Seacombe Ferry. The race also finishes on Ian Fraser Walk.

Final places are available at here.

Boasting wonderful seafront views throughout, the race is fast and mostly flat. This is an ideal race for runners stepping up their distance for their first 10K, or for those chasing a personal best time.

This year’s striking medal design features course landmark, Wirral’s Perch Rock Lighthouse. Runners will also receive a finishers’ T-shirt.

This is the 11th staging of the race. The race returned in 2023 with an updated course after a break of two years and numbers continue to steadily rise.

A modest 500 runners took part in 2023 which jumped to 750 last year. This year, 900 entries have already been surpassed with organisers BTR Liverpool aiming to hit the 1,000-mark.

The most represented clubs taking part so far include Birkenhead Park Running Club, Chester Road Runners, Pensby Runners, and Wallasey AC.

The race has also attracted runners visiting from Italy and America, as well as senior runners in their late 70s and 80s.

Volunteers are also welcome to come forward and be part of the day by helping at the water station or giving out medals and T-shirt. Email erica@btrliverpool.com for more details.

Last year’s race also seen new male and female course records set.

The BTR Wirral 10K 2024 race was won by Matthew Gawne from Altrincham & District AC in a time of 33 minutes 52 seconds. First female finisher was Lisa Gawthorne from Vegan Runners UK clocking 38 minutes 7 seconds.

BTR Liverpool is the leading organisation for creating, managing, and delivering headline running events across Liverpool City Region.

A packed BTR event calendar features competitive races and fun runs between March and December. The portfolio also includes BTR Liverpool Half Marathon and 10 Miler, BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K, Run For The 97, and Port Sunlight Road Race.

BTR Liverpool is supporting eight charities spanning the 2025 event portfolio. Participants can support their vital work by fundraising for them on race day. Full details can be found on the BTR website.

Charity partners for the 2025 event portfolio are Alder Hey Children’s Charity; Claire House Children’s Hospice; Clatterbridge Cancer Charity; Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity; Mersey Cares; North West Air Ambulance; Wirral University Teaching Hospital; and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

BTR Liverpool Race Director Alan Rothwell commented:

“In less than two weeks we stage the BTR Wirral 10K on 12 October – our last competitive race event of 2025. Join us to race, come along to support, or be part of the volunteer team on the day.

“What a whirlwind of a year it has been. We’ve had sold-out races throughout the year, and already 2026 is shaping up to be another exciting year for running with BTR.

“What the BTR Team enjoy the most is the excitement and anticipation on everyone’s faces as they cross the start line – swiftly followed by the elation and joy crossing the finish line to celebrate their achievements. It is a very special feeling, and it’s something we all share on event day.”

The BTR Wirral 10K is the final competitive race of the year and the penultimate event of 2025 for organisers BTR Liverpool.

The event portfolio is brought to a spectacular close on Sunday 7 December with the iconic BTR Liverpool Santa Dash – thought to be the UK’s biggest festive 5K fun run.

Almost 2,500 Santas have already signed up for the main 5K and 1K Mini Dash. Walk, jog, or run alongside wheelchair participants, charities, families, baby Santas in prams, and four-legged furry Santas.

Full details about BTR Liverpool events can be found on the website.
