Four decades on from a season that defined a generation, two of the most iconic figures in sporting history are returning to the stage to revisit a year of unprecedented local triumph.
As the famous Kop song goes, “On the Glorious 10th of May”, four decades on from one of the most iconic seasons in English football history, and 40 years to the day of the first all-Merseyside FA Cup Final, Liverpool royalty Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush will reunite on stage to relive the club’s historic Double-winning campaign of 1986.

Taking place at the Auditorium at M&S Bank Arena, this very special evening will see Dalglish and Rush in conversation with legendary commentator Clive Tyldesley, who will guide audiences through one of the most celebrated chapters in Liverpool FC history.
From the drama of a relentless league campaign to the emotion of Wembley, the night will bring to life the defining moments, untold stories and personal reflections behind a team that etched its name into football folklore.
A Historic Double Revisited
The 1985/86 season itself remains one of Liverpool’s greatest, a campaign defined by resilience and a late surge to the title, as Dalglish’s side hunted down the league leaders before sealing the championship and carrying that momentum into Wembley against their local rivals.
After Everton had taken a first-half lead, Liverpool produced one of the great FA Cup Final comebacks, with Ian Rush scoring twice in a famous 3-1 victory.
The evening will open with a special panel featuring former teammates Sammy Lee, Steve McMahon, Gary Gillespie and more, joining Clive Tyldesley to share their memories of that remarkable campaign, from the dressing room to the biggest stage in English football.
The Return of The Red Weekender
The event is a welcome 2026 return of The Red Weekender, following its hugely successful debut in May 2025.
Built on an authentic connection to Liverpool’s fanbase, the platform has established itself as a unique way to bring club legends and supporters together for unforgettable shared experiences.
Daniel Nicolson & Mike Deane, organisers of The Red Weekender said:
“As lifelong Liverpool supporters ourselves, there are so many incredible moments tied to this great Football Club, but none that are quite like the unique memories of 1986.
“To bring together the two most iconic figures from that season, and from the Club’s history, on stage for the first time to relive what was such a special year is a real privilege for us.
“This is a truly unique, one-night-only moment – and in such an intimate setting, one The Red Weekender is incredibly proud to present.”
Ben Williams, Commercial and Business Development Director for M&S Bank Arena, said:
“Last year’s Red Weekender was unforgettable and we’re delighted to be partnering again to recreate that incredible atmosphere.
“It showed exactly what’s possible when passionate organisers, club legends and supporters come together in the heart of the city.
“Working closely with the Red Weekender team once more, this 1986 Double Winners celebration will capture that same sense of togetherness, nostalgia and shared pride, a truly fitting way to honour one of the greatest moments in Liverpool FC history.”
