Now the clocks have gone back and the nights are getting longer, there’s no better place to get cosy and snug than Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery and Jazz Saturdays.

Each weekend, a vibrantly kaleidoscopic range of jazz sounds grace the iconic Liverpool venue, infused with and inspired by the magic of New Orleans and Brazilian beats to the simmering back streets of Paris.

Jazz Saturdays at Ma Boyle's announce new listings

The Parrjazz team continue to book a spectrum of innovators, stars and collectives who have made Saturday nights their own in the city. And to see out 2023, November and December’s dates feature an array of talent with some new faces and old friends returning, including Neil Yates, Perri Alleyne-Hughes Ensemble, Blind Monk, Dean Masser, Frank Griffiths and Cuba Vida and as always, all shows are free to attend.

Ma Boyle’s founder Iain Hoskins says:

“Jazz Saturdays has built a wonderful and loyal following in Liverpool. Working with the team at Parrjazz, each weekend has seen amazing artists at Ma Boyle’s and our intimate venue is perfect for evenings of jazz-infused magic. The last two months of the year will take us all the way to Saturday 23rd December and Jazz Saturdays will be back on Saturday 20th January 2024. Myself and all the team are immensely proud of bringing these beautiful sounds to the city as Liverpool’s longest running weekly jazz night.”

Tucked away off Water Street and nestled by the beautiful St Nick’s church gardens, Ma Boyle’s has seen the city change all around it whilst staying true to its historic maritime roots. It caters for breakfast brunchers and liquid lunchers to brilliant bistro food with a wonderful range of drinks and irresistible cocktails and is a fabulous hideaway from the city’s hustle and bustle.

All Jazz Saturdays events are completely free and start at 8.30pm – table can be reserved here.

Jazz Saturdays – November and December listings

Saturday 4th November – Neil Yates

Multi-instrumentalist composer, arranger and educator Neil Yates worked initially for the BBC Big Band and as a high-profile session musician performing and recording with the Brand New Heavies, Black Grape, Alison Moyet and Robbie Williams.

Saturday 11th November – Cuba Vida

The Cuba Vida Salsa Band is an exciting group offering a unique sound emerging from Latin, Jazz, Funk, Reggae-ton and Salsa music. The exhilarating line up of vocalists, keys, effects, saxophone, and drums promise an authentic Salsa Party from start to end.

Saturday 18th November – Perri Alleyne-Hughes Ensemble

Former Musical Director from the acclaimed Sense of Sound, Peri is joined by Roger Gardiner on double bass, Alan Kaishin Crawford on guitar and vocals and Viktor Nordberg on drums. Expect a delightful mix of jazz infused with Latin, blues and the occasional sprinkle of rock.

Saturday 25th November – Blind Monk

The spirit of Thelonious Monk with rock’n’roll attitude: a gracious nod to the great piano-less trios with an added dose of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and Persian traditional music.

Saturday 2nd December – Dean Masser

Like Dexter Gordon, his long-time musical hero, Dean Masser is a hard-swinging, lyrical saxophonist. Dean has played alongside many of the leading names in British jazz at numerous venues and festivals.

Saturday 9th December – Frank Griffith

Renowned saxophonist, clarinettist and arranger, Frank Griffith, developed his distinctive New York jazz sound living and performing in the city for over 20 years, Frank plays many forms of jazz including modern, mainstream and traditional alongside funk and soul.

Saturday 16th December – Cuba Vida

The Cuba Vida Salsa Band return for the season for the penultimate Jazz Saturdays show.

Saturday 23rd December – Perri Alleyne-Hughes Ensemble

Back for the final Jazz Saturdays session of 2023, the Perri Alleyne-Hughes Ensemble see out the year in the finest of festive styles.

Thank you to everyone that has attended Jazz Saturdays at Ma Boyle’s during 2023.

They will be back in the New Year every week from Saturday 20th January 2024!
