The first trailer has been released for Amazing Grace, a new British drama starring Hannah Walters, ahead of its world premiere in Liverpool later this month.
The film will receive its world premiere at Liverpool’s Plaza Community Cinema on Thursday 29 October, before arriving in UK cinemas through Screenbound Pictures on 6 November 2026.
Walters, known for her roles in A Thousand Blows and Boiling Point, stars as Grace, a crisis helpline volunteer who develops an unexpected connection with Walter, played by Daniel P. Lewis, a deeply isolated man struggling to cope with his past.
What begins as a conversation between two strangers gradually becomes a powerful exploration of childhood trauma, addiction, shame and the importance of human connection.

Amazing Grace marks the feature film directorial debut of Ruth Carney, whose television credits include Shetland, Brassic and Call the Midwife. The film is written by Lewis, who also stars and serves as a producer.
Drawing partly on Lewis’s own experiences, the drama tackles difficult subjects surrounding mental health and emotional isolation, while highlighting the difference that being heard and understood can make.

Speaking about bringing the film to cinemas, Daniel P. Lewis said:
“There were times when making this film, never mind getting it into cinemas, felt completely impossible.
“I wrote Amazing Grace from a very personal place. Although this is a fictional story, there are emotions and experiences within Walter that I know extremely well.
“To now have Screenbound taking it into cinemas across the UK is something I’m incredibly grateful of.
“More than anything, I hope people watch it and talk. The film deals with some very dark subjects, but for me it has always ultimately been about hope, connection and what can happen when somebody genuinely listens.”
Hannah Walters also spoke about her involvement in the production, which was filmed in just 11 days on a limited budget.
“It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be part of this wonderful film. Amazing Grace not only helps to highlight those who suffer with mental health issues, but it also shines a light on the individuals that try to help people on a daily basis – the unsung heroes of our communities.
“Amazing Grace was made in a miraculous 11 days with the smallest of budgets, but because of the commitment and passion from all the cast and crew, that positive energy drove the production forward and we are all extremely proud of this film.
“We hope audiences will watch and be left with feelings of hope, as hope is being able to see there is light despite all of the darkness.”

The film also features a strong supporting cast, including BAFTA-nominated Liverpool actor James Nelson-Joyce, known for This City Is Ours and A Thousand Blows.
He is joined by BAFTA-winning Chanel Cresswell (This Is England, The Gentlemen), BAFTA-nominated Sonny Walker (The Gathering), Angela Lonsdale, Connor McIntyre, Kelly Condron and newcomer Raphael Murphy.

Behind the scenes, Amazing Grace has been produced by Daniel P. Lewis, Carley Armstrong, Shaun Robinson and Colin Cromby, with Dawn Tolcher and Sean O’Neill serving as executive producers for Eryr Film.
With its Liverpool world premiere taking place just days before its nationwide release, Amazing Grace is set to bring an emotional story of trauma, resilience and hope to cinema audiences.
Amazing Grace premieres at Liverpool’s Plaza Community Cinema on 29 October 2026, ahead of its UK theatrical release on 6 November.
