Blundell Street, The Baltic Triangle’s longest-running venue, is now under new management. The new owners are the multi-award-winning FunnyBoyz drag queens, who have been a resident act at the venue for several years and have an exciting schedule of entertainment planned for 2023.
Ann Downes owned the venue previously and ran it very successfully for nearly 20 years, developing a fantastic reputation as ‘The Supper Club’ with a wide variety of live entertainment and quality food and drink. Since forming in 2020, the new owners, FunnyBoyz, have been a firm favourite at the venue and across the country.
The Bottle Club voted the hilarious FunnyBoyz drag nights at Blundell Street the 7th best in the UK and the best in Liverpool based on their Google rating score, Instagram, LGBTQ+ friendly, and location. Their nights have always been one of the main draws at Blundell Street, so it’s only fitting that they are now the new owners of the iconic venue.
Planned for 2023 is the continuation of the popular Benidorm Bingo drag nights every Friday night — the wild and hilarious shows featuring drag cabaret, bingo, games and special guests such as RuPaul drag queens. Tickets start at just £15, with meal options and party packages available.
Saturday afternoons will consist of the amazing drag brunch shows — offering a 2 course brunch for £30pp or bottomless brunch for £45pp. Following that, every Saturday night there’s the Saturday Night Cabaret shows — featuring a top live tribute act such as Freddie Mercury, Lionel Richie and ABBA alongside the drag queens, with tickets from £15.
Sundays at Blundell Street will feature soul and motown events with Sunday lunch followed by a DJ and the venue will still be available for private party bookings. Always a big hit for special occasions and hen parties, Blundell Street is one of the city’s premier live entertainment venues.
FunnyBoyz Founder, Linda Gold, said:
“It’s an honour to take over the venue following the fantastic work Ann has done there for many years now. We’ve been touring the UK and have become one of the best drag concepts in the country, but it feels amazing to now have our own official venue. We’ll still be doing other events such as drag bar crawls and boat parties, but it’s great to now have a permanent home.”
FunnyBoyz have countless 5 star reviews, with many saying they’ve had the best night out of their lives at the events. With a number of wild and wonderful drag queens performing alongside RuPaul queens and top tribute acts, FunnyBoyz nights are always an absolute hoot!
Dys Alexia, who runs FunnyBoyz alongside Linda Gold, said:
“Blundell Street holds a place dear in our hearts as we’ve had so many amazing nights there. To call it our own and continue the legacy that Ann has left means a lot to us and we promise to bring even more fun and energy to our future shows there.”
Since taking over in April 2023, FunnyBoyz have hosted a huge Eurovision event featuring previous entrants Scooch and others such as Jemini and Linda Martin. They also recently gave away 50 free show and meal tickets to celebrate the new takeover and thank existing customers for their support.
Linda summarised:
“Blundell Street has developed an incredible reputation over the years and we’re determined to carry that forward into 2023 and beyond. It’s all about creating that fun, party environment where people can make memories and celebrate special occasions in style — with quality food, drink and live entertainment.”
