Free family-friendly activities arrive at Royal Albert Dock this August

  • August 2, 2022
  • Editor

Royal Albert Dock is launching an exciting lineup of free, family friendly activities from Tuesday 2nd August until Thursday 25th August.

Each activity takes inspiration from The Great British Seaside to ignite nostalgic memories spent at the beach, right here on Liverpool’s waterfront.

From screenings at the world’s smallest mobile picture house, to a modernised pantomime show from Punch & Judy, all of the activities are completely free and will take place in the dock’s Mermaid Courtyard next to Tate Liverpool.

Three red, yellow and blue striped beach-huts will set the scene for the activities, with giant versions of popular games available to play, including Snakes and Ladders, Jenga and Hopscotch, just a stone’s throw from the giant deckchair, which is perfect for a seaside selfie.

Bringing the much-loved seaside classic, Punch and Judy, back to Liverpool where it first arrived in the 1860s, enjoy a modernised version of this hilarious puppet show with plenty of fun and silliness that the whole family will enjoy. The performance will take place four times a day at 11.45am, 1pm, 2.15pm and 3.30pm on 2nd, 9th, 19th and 26th August, with outdoor seating available.

A trip to the seaside wouldn’t be complete without a memento to remember the day out, with a portrait drawn by a talented caricature artist the perfect keepsake. Taking just three minutes to conjure up a work of art, visitors can head to Mermaid Courtyard every Wednesday from 3rd – 24th August between 11-2pm for a cartoon style portrait of their day out at the seaside.

Little ones who love getting a new look can be transformed into their favourite superhero or a sparkling unicorn by a professional face painter every Thursday from 4th – 25th August between 11-2pm. Offering a range of face painting, glitter and airbrush designs for the face or hands, a magical makeover is a sure way to put a smile on their face.
