Summer’s here, and things are really heating up in Liverpool. Brighter days herald a different feel as the city embraces the longer nights, especially tuning each weekend into the eclectic strains of jazz emanating from around Tower Gardens and in the proximity of St. Nick’s Church.
Here, the historic Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery and music innovators ParrJazz host the city’s longest-running weekly jazz night, Jazz Saturdays. The intimate and storied hideaway continues to welcome some of the UK’s leading names in jazz across a kaleidoscopic range of styles, embracing pretty much every facet infused with elements of salsa, Latin, blues, and even rock. Vibrant and bold Jazz Saturdays is the city’s jazz hotspot in an ongoing collaboration and now announces its run of shows from June 10th into July.
Iain Hoskins, Ma Boyle’s owner, explains:
“Seeing how Jazz Saturdays has evolved over the years is really something special. With ParrJazz we have a vision to curate these weekly shows and really go for it with the bookings. You just don’t get to see such talent anywhere on a weekly basis in the city. Ma Boyle’s really suits jazz so well – its low ceilings and intimacy create this lovely feeling, we’re tucked away just off the main street but sometimes in here on a Saturday night we could be a world away. There’s a lovely sense of escapism we create each weekend here and every show is packed with jazz lovers old and new.”
