Faces of Liverpool – Chris Grundy

What do you love about Liverpool?

I love the food scene, I think my blog says it all really. The independent hospitality scene in Liverpool has come on leaps and bounds in the past few years, and I absolutely love watching local people succeeding in what they do!

Name one main thing about living in Liverpool that makes you proud?

It’s heart, it’s people, the city and it’s people are just a different breed to the rest of the country. Fiercely loyal, and always standing up for ourselves with any injustices.

If you could describe Liverpool in 3 words what would they be?

Loyal, strong, home.

Name one place in Liverpool that holds a special place in your heart?

The waterfront, I don’t know why, I mean maybe it’s the buildings, the three graces towering over… the Mersey itself, or inside the docks… I find it so calming to be near the water, I live very close to the Mersey myself, maybe it’s because it reminds me more of being even close to home.

Is there anything on your ‘Bucket List’ to do in Liverpool that your still yet to achieve?

This is such a hard question, I’ve been lucky to do so much here… I mean if we’re talking bucket list, what’s the “dream” i’d love to host my own food & travel show one day… so starting small, set up my own to do in Liverpool first?

Do you have any tales of Liverpool or claim to fame while in the city?

There was this one time years ago when Sir Ian McKellen came to the playhouse theatre … must have been around 2005 or 2006, something like that… and I wanted to meet Gandalf! So I ran round the back, I literally had a flyer and a biro… a biro! He signed it for me and I panicked ‘cos I didn’t know what to say… Gandalf was walking through our city… so I wanted to say something and panicked, I ended up shouting “Ian your jeans are fabulous” … he had these weird patchy jeans on (they were not as I said “fabulous”) … and he just chuckled said thanks waved at me and walked away… I mean, as random tales go Will that do?
