Exciting new disco and funk night – Black Light Disco created in support of men’s mental health

An exciting new disco and funk night has been created in Liverpool and a percentage of all ticket sales will be donated to a men’s mental health campaign based in North Liverpool.

Black Light Disco brings top quality disco and funk grooves to The Baltic Triangle’s stylish Blundell Street venue, with mental health in mind, and the first event on Friday 30th July is set to be an incredible showcase.

Black Light Disco is Liverpool’s exciting new disco night for the moovers, the groovers and the music connoisseurs. A much needed regular night that brings fun, classy and sophisticated events to the Liverpool clubbing scene, Black Light Disco offers party goers an experience like no other in the city.

With its residency at one of Liverpool’s most iconic venues, Blundell Street, Black Light Disco aims to set the trend for disco nights in Liverpool — putting on nights that are funky, fun and free from ego and attitude. Party goers can attend Black Light Disco events just for the music or, to make a night of it, enjoy dinner or V.I.P booths at the widely regarded ‘Supper Club’ venue.

Black Light Disco’s Founder, Ste Hendry aka Esteban, works for the NHS and realising the major issue of mental health problems, decided to partner with a local project in order to help raise funds for them. As a result, 10% of all ticket sales from all events will be donated to a local charity — initially the #Endthestigma campaign to set up a men’s mental health hub in Kirkdale.

Ste Hendry said:

“The concept of Black Light Disco is to fill a gap in the market and provide a funky, fun disco and funk night that is free from ego and attitude. For us, the classy and reputable Blundell Street venue was an ideal choice and then I started to look at the bigger picture and see how we could help a charity at the same time.”

The #Endthestigma campaign was created by Lewis Powell, Founder of the Inner Guru wellbeing centre and CIC in Kirkdale. Lewis and a group of other men, including mental health nurse Jay Wheeler, are setting up a men’s mental health hub to bridge the gap and offer a number of early intervention measures to prevent a mental health crisis amongst males in the region.

Lewis Powell said:

“There’s a pandemic of mental health issues at the moment and it really is a team effort to help raise awareness and put support measures in place. Music is a great way to do so and it’s brilliant when music makes people feel great and raises money in the process. It’s fantastic to join forces with such an exciting and positive new disco night.”

Black Light Disco’s first event on 30th July will feature resident DJs Esteban, Goz (Spin City) and North Wales duo Pookie Knights. The resident DJs are well established disco, funk and house maestros and all feature regularly on one of the biggest house music stations on the planet, New York’s My House Radio FM.

For a night of unadulterated funky grooves, the cost is just £10 for entry from 8.30pm. For those wishing to make a night of it, £26.95 grants you entry at 7pm for the warm up DJ and a 2 course meal. For a very special night, £49.95 includes entry at 7pm, prosecco or beer on arrival, a VIP balcony booth, a 2 course meal and a bottle of wine.

Blundell Street Owner, Ann Downes, said:

“We’ve been hosting a variety of live entertainment, food and drink events for the past 18 years, from cabaret to motown, and it’s always great to offer exciting new concepts. The guys Black Light Disco are so talented and the fact that they’ve partnered with a charity for their events is a real bonus. We can’t wait to get the dancefloor filled with this amazing new night.”

With so many different events planned in Liverpool as restrictions relax, there certainly aren’t many that offer top quality disco, funk and house with dinner and VIP packages available. With money raised for a vital cause in the process, Black Light Disco at Blundell Street is set to be a very special regular night with a great atmosphere and ethos.
