A new show pits British suppliers against one another, with winning festive products hitting stores on December 19th, the show will feature Liverpool’s own bakery, Desserts by Dre.
Viewers will also get a behind-the-scenes look at Aldi in the run-up to Christmas, including preparations for the nation’s first ever Bottomless Pigs in Blankets Restaurant Episode.
Dre Carrington, 41, of Liverpool, was approached by the Aldi production team last summer and will appear on Channel 4‘s Aldi’s Christmas Secrets on Monday, December 18th at 9pm.
The programme sees British suppliers pitch festive foodie creations to Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, and Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, for the chance to land a life-changing contract for the festive season.
Dre, the brains behind Penny Lane bakery Desserts by Dre, which he opened in December 2022, hopes to impress Aldi executives with a festive take on his speciality dessert, cheesecake.
In addition to his cake shop, Dre sells his creations both wholesale and online, but says the scale of an order from a big supermarket would change everything:
“Not only would it be the most incredible & life changing opportunity to have a product I created available in stores throughout the Country, But would also be an absolute honour knowing people are having my dessert at one of the most special times of the year, where food is so important!”
Other contenders include Wigston Deli, which is promoting Pigs in Blankets Samosas, The Pudding Shop in Worcestershire and Yorkshire dairy farm Yorvale, which is promoting Pigs in Blankets Ice Cream.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK says:
“With so many of our existing suppliers coming up with great Christmas products, we really only have space for one more within our seasonal range.
“We absolutely have to stand out from the crowd at Christmas and new, quirky products are key to this.”
The new Channel 4 show also follows the supermarket as it prepares for Christmas, with a behind-the-scenes look at current suppliers, in-store operations, and the debut of the country’s first ever bottomless Pigs in Blankets Restaurant.
Communications Director at Aldi UK, Richard Thornton says:
“It’s really important that we get people thinking about Aldi and considering us for their Christmas shop.”
