The spectacular Naming Ceremony for Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, will take place at the company’s spiritual home.
The event will happen on Monday, June 3, during an introductory “lap of honour” voyage around the British Isles, on Liverpool’s famous Mersey waterfront.
On what is sure to be the most anticipated port of call on the exclusive 14-night voyage, Queen Anne is expected to arrive on the Mersey shortly after dawn. There will be musically maritime street theatre and choir performances on Liverpool’s Pier Head starting at 2.30 p.m.
Much-loved TV stars Emma and Matt Willis will host the special naming ceremony, which starts at 4 p.m. A bottle of Champagne is customarily smashed against the 249th ship to bear the Cunard name, and an amazing lineup of Liverpool’s best talent, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and performers from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, will take the stage along with special guests and the official godparent for Queen Anne’s naming. Operatic sensation Andrea Bocelli will perform as the event comes to an end.
Further performances by the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, DJ Lauren Lo Sung, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will then round off the festivities. Craig Charles will then play a vibrant funk and soul set to keep the party going till the fireworks finale, when Queen Anne leaves.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to gather on beaches at Formby and Crosby in Sefton, between New Brighton and Seacombe on Wirral, and along the river at Pier Head for the Liverpool event.
