The team behind Liverpool’s only bar to open and close the same day, Abbey Road Bar & Kitchen, are now attempting to open Dwntwn, again, in May.
The contemporary, independent cocktail lounge opened its doors on the 18th of September 2020 and was forced to close after being open less than a week, due to the 10pm curfew placed on venues late last year. It’s sister site, Abbey Road Bar & Kitchen, which is above it on Harrington Street opened and closed its doors on Friday 20th March as we entered our first national lockdown.
General manager of Dwntwn Josh Ambrose said
“We are hoping things go a little more smoothly this time around. Abbey Road Bar & Kitchen has become a bit of a quiz question now in Liverpool opening a closing literally in the space of 7 hours after Boris Johnson announced the first lockdown. We then could not believe our eyes when the joke that was the 10pm curfew came in. So now we are saying a little prayer that now things are starting to get back to normal, that we can push on and make this Spring and Summer much better than last year.”
If all goes to plan under the government’s steps, the site will open on Thursday May 20th after we enter step 3 on Monday May 17th, the day when indoor hospitality can re-open.
Dwntwn is based underground on Harrington Street, just off Castle Street, in the heart of Liverpool business district, offering a unique experience not currently offered within the City Centre. The team hopes to ensure that everyone leaves with a story to tell after having an amazing night in a comfortable environment.
Dwntwn hopes to help elevate the Liverpool hospitality industry with an emphasis on great service and a unique atmosphere. Cocktails are made using infusions and exclusive techniques to challenge more conventional drinks menus, ensuring consistency with a flourish every time. The Dwntwn team promise this is a drinking experience that offers something for everyone from signature cocktails, re-imagined classics and spritzes, or even custom blends of your choice: you get to choose your own cocktail couture. An evening Dwntwn begins the minute you walk down the venue’s stairs to be shown to your own spacious Chesterfield booth.
Table service means you really can relax and listen to the grand piano and resident lounge singer early doors and as the night progresses, the music will heat up via Dwntwn’s resident DJ’s who will be providing house cuts, disco and grooves until the early hours.
As the city centre comes to life, in the heart of a district known for both its culture and its sense of style, Dwntwn is going to be the underground choice for those who want to enjoy a chic, chilled out venue.
