A huge event to mark the 60th anniversary of Ferry Cross The Mersey will take place at the Adelphi Hotel on Sunday 26th May.
The special event, hosted by the legendary Billy Butler, will feature all the biggest hits from Gerry And The Pacemakers and classics from the Merseybeat era.
The majestic ballroom of The Adelphi will host top acts that will recreate the magic of the Merseybeat era. A special screening of the Ferry Cross The Mersey movie will take place at 1pm, followed by quality entertainment from The Shakers, Neil Ainsby, and Tony Skeggs from The Cavern Club starting at 3 pm. This historic event promises to be a treat for all music lovers.
Get ready to dive into a nostalgic afternoon, where you’ll be taken on a journey through the Merseybeat scene by the charming Billy Butler and The Cavern Club’s finest. The journey will be 60 years after the iconic Ferry Cross The Mersey single was recorded on 27th May 1964. The event is a celebration of that huge hit and the legacy of Gerry And The Pacemakers. It is promised to be a very special and memorable occasion.
The Shakers are known for their high-energy performances and are considered one of Liverpool’s best beat groups since the 1960s. They will be joined by Neil Ainsby, a top tribute artist who pays homage to Gerry Marsden, and Tony Skeggs, a regular at the Cavern Club who has spent two decades with The Overtures, the UK’s premier 1960s tribute band.
Organiser Tony Cook from Tram Productions said:
“I’m delighted to be putting on this historic showcase in such a majestic setting. To recreate the timeless hits from Gerry And The Pacemakers and the Merseybeat era in celebration of 60 years since the release of Ferry Cross The Mersey is an honour and it’s going to be a very special afternoon at The Adelphi indeed.”
Tram Productions has teamed up with Mersey Ferries to organise a commemorative exhibition. This follows the success of their first Wack Pack event, which featured Ricky Tomlinson, Asa Murphy, Joe Speare, and Steve Charles and completely sold out. With tickets selling fast, Tram Productions is preparing for yet another amazing sell-out show.
Tony Cook, who spent 20 years as a member of a well-known Beatles tribute band and is now a professional tour guide with The Magical Mystery Tour, has come up with a new events concept. Tram Productions has an array of exciting events lined up for 2024.
In addition to the sold-out event and this special Merseybeat show, there’s a Coopers Reunion event (already sold out), big tribute shows, a Rock N Roll event, a Christmas swing and soul event and many more to be announced soon — including an exhibition from snooker legend Mark Williams. The idea is to bring ‘special’ celebration events to the city and introduce more afternoon shows.
Tony explained:
“The reception for our first Wack Pack event at The Adelphi was incredible — we sold out well in advance. The feedback has been amazing and I think people appreciate the afternoon format in a classy venue. We have some massive events planned and talks are underway for another Live Aid Liverpool festival next year so watch this space for some huge announcements!”
