Liverpool is to host a series of 80s and 90s-inspired gigs, with the aim of bringing back the iconic sounds of the decades. Four nostalgic events are coming to Liverpool venues this October and November courtesy of Sound Night Out, including an Indie Disco, 80s synth bands, electronica, and a US 90s grunge band.
The event Mersey Paradise – 90s Indie Disco will bring a night of pure nostalgia. Expect a euphoric blend of Britpop anthems, shoegaze dreamscapes, and grunge-infused energy that will take you on a sonic journey through the decade’s most iconic sounds. Live bands and a DJ will be playing music from the likes of The Stone Roses, Oasis, Blur, The LAs, Nirvana, Pulp, The Lightning Seeds, REM and more!
The night will also feature Chime School, signed to the legendary Slumberland Records and currently blowing up in their native San Francisco, USA. This is Chime School’s first UK tour, don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch them in an intimate club before everyone else catches on! With support from Ramones influenced Yee Loi and Cocteau Twins influenced Irene and the Disappointments and then Mersey Paradise – 90s Indie Disco until late.
Are you a fan of 90s Grunge & Riot Grrrl, Babes in Toyland, Bikini Kill, Hole, Sleater Kinney, L7 etc? Well you’ll love Skating Polly. A killer live band with a superb back catalogue with all the polish of a band with 15 years experience writing, recording and performing together since they started out at school, inspired by their parents 90s record collection.
Having recently enjoyed airplay on BBC 6 Music, Skating Polly are coming back to Liverpool all the way from Seattle, USA, after a thoroughly successful gig last year! They’ll be supported by The Empty Page, the emphatic punk outfit from Manchester who have enjoyed airtime from BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 1 and who have been compared to Radiohead, Bjork, Kate Bush, Amanda Palmer and Patti Smith.
Emika has her own sound and is following her own path. Since the turn of the decade she has been producing electronic and neo classical music, combining her skills as a sound designer, classically trained composer, and prolific singer-songwriter, she has released 6 critically acclaimed albums to date and works independently running her own business Emika Records.
Do you love 80s synth music? Great news! Two of the most authentic 80s inspired bands on the scene are heading to Liverpool for an awesome double-bill of pure 80s inspired bliss. Berlin’s Curses and LA’s Nuovo Testamento are due to set Liverpool alight this November!
Nuovo Testamento boast vocals similar to early Madonna and synth’s reminiscent of Pet Shop Boys and New Order. Meanwhile, Curses make catchy synth pop with darker elements similar to Sisters Of Mercy and 80s Goth. A nostalgic night that will transport you back to the 80s!
The events are being hosted by John King’s Sound Night Out concept — aiming to keep alive the iconic sounds of the 80s and 90s by showcasing local and international artists who are inspired by the genres of the decades. From grunge inspired Seattle rockers to LA synth titans, there’s something for everyone with Sound Night Out!
