Southport to welcome new Bear Hunt sculpture trail

An exciting new Bear Hunt sculture trail is coming to Southport for visitors to enjoy in early 2025!

Southport town centre will soon welcome the arrival of ten colourful bears, all inspired by the classic ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ children’s picture book.

The hand-painted sculptures feature unique designs from talented artists and illustrators; each representing a different theme.

The Bear Hunt trail is a free event and perfect for all ages. Trail maps will be available for those who wish to explore the town in search of the bears.

The sculptures will be on display in locations throughout Southport town centre from Saturday 1st February 2025 until Sunday 27th April 2025.

Southport BID and Sefton Council are working with Wild in Art and Walker Books to bring the much-loved childrens book to life.

‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ was published in 1989 and was written by former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury.

Published by Walker Books, it has attained worldwide sales of more than 9 million copies.

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said:

“We are really excited about seeing the twelve bears coming to Southport in 2025.

“They will be on display for twelve weeks, covering both February Half Term and the Easter school holidays.

“The bears will certainly bring a splash of colour to the town centre in the winter months.

“At this time of year, we want to create additional incentives to encourage visitors to come and explore Southport town centre and discover all that our local businesses have to offer.

“More details of the locations and artists involved will be released soon.”

Charlie Langhorne, Managing Director and Co-founder Wild in Art said:

“We are delighted to be able to bring the Bear Hunt Trail to Southport.

Exploring the trail is a fun activity to do with friends and family and it’s free to visit.

It’s a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air and take a stroll around Southport while discovering some truly unique and inspiring art.
