Strawberry Field announce the return of its iconic Garden Fete

Iconic Strawberry Field Garden Fete, much loved by John Lennon, to return as part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The fete, which was regularly attended by a young John Lennon and his Aunt Mimi in the 40s and 50s, is a free event on the 4th and 5th and will include everything from arts and crafts, to the “Find The Crown Treasure Hunt”, demonstrations from the Calderstones Wood Turners group, live music, and dancing from Mersey Swing. It promises to be the perfect day out for all the family!

Visitors can also enjoy some delicious “Royal” treats in the attraction’s cafe throughout the weekend. And those attending are encouraged to bring their Strawberry Field memories, with these images, letters and keepsakes set to be displayed in the foyer.

Sue Harvey, commercial manager, Strawberry Field, said:

“We wanted to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a special way, and that is when we came up with the idea of bringing back the iconic Garden Fete, once a staple at Strawberry Field and a particular favourite of the young John Lennon. Visitors can expect a lovely weekend of family fun, food and good music.”

Strawberry Field is an award-winning new visitor attraction in Liverpool, located at the iconic site immortalised by John Lennon in The Beatles’ hit, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’. Strawberry Field is home to an interactive visitor exhibition which includes the original red gates, the Steinway piano on which John wrote and recorded ‘Imagine’ alongside Yoko Ono, which is currently on loan to the attraction from George Michael’s estate, and the magical gardens where John played, climbed trees and dreamed as a child.

Guests can also feel like kings and queens for the day by indulging in afternoon tea in the grounds of Strawberry Field (priced at £15 per person).

Owned and operated by The Salvation Army, every ticket sale or donation made at the Strawberry Field attraction goes toward its Steps to Work mission – to provide sustainable employment opportunities for young people with learning difficulties and other barriers to employment, through training skills and valuable work placements.

For more information about Strawberry Field and its full Jubilee weekend programme, visit the website, and on social media – Twitter, Facebook and Instagram –Despite the event being free, it is advisable to book exhibition tickets now to avoid disappointment!
