EITC put measures in place to help the vulnerable during coronavirus outbreak

  • March 16, 2020

With the fear of the coronavirus outbreak, Everton in the Community have adapted their approach to continue their amazing support to help the most vulnerable.

After the unfortunate statement released by the charity confirming that they have had to temporality postpone all sessions and the delivery of their programmes, EITC have put in place a number of measures to help their participants during the outbreak.

The charity is implementing a number of measures to help out in any way possible during the outbreak, while they are unable to provide their full range of services.

Everton in the Community staff will be keeping in contact with elderly members of the community who are usually involved in their group via phone and messages. The contact is to help keep up as much social interaction as possible.

Advice and support will also be offered to the elderly participants for them to express any concerns, while also assisting them with access to emergency food and care parcels where needed.

Committed to supporting the residents who live in the one-mile radius surrounding Goodison Park, the neighbourhood team will be running a phone/text/email service for anyone in that area requiring advice or support. This can range to matters such as housing, benefits, wellbeing and foodbanks.

Everton FC are also in the process of organising outreach calls to its most vulnerable fans, by increasing digital communications to compensate for a reduction in face-to-face interaction.

EITC’s Youth Engagement support team are currently hard at work identifying vulnerable young people in the community and supporting them. EITC are also exploring possibilities of setting up ‘virtual hangouts’ for some participants of programmes that have been postponed over the coming days and weeks.

Due to the unprecedented situation, measures during this time will be constantly evolving to meet the criteria of those in need.
