This weekend saw the hugely successful launch of the stunning art-installation ‘Borealis’ at Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, drawing in over 45,000 visitors who were captivated by Dan Acher’s recreation of the Northern Lights.

The highly-anticipated installation transformed the dock’s historic Hartley Quay, using beams of light and the elements to create an awe-inspiring illusion of the Aurora Borealis, accompanied with a relaxing soundtrack to further enhance the light and sound experience.

The event has proven to be a massive success, attracting locals and tourists alike and receiving a huge amount of positive feedback.

Liverpool influencer, Stephi LaReine, commented “Everyone was saying how I’m gonna love the super colourful viral Borealis by Dan Acher in Liverpool. But little did they know it was going to be the best art show I’ve seen in 2025. Albert Dock once again showing everyone how to curate an utterly awe-inspiring event”.

Family blogger, LifewithKirstie, said “Last night was pure magic. Standing at Liverpool’s Albert Dock we watched Borealis – Northern Lights dance across the sky, an unforgettable sight right here in the city. The crowds? Huge but totally worth it!”

Another visitor said on Facebook, “The artist who created this is very talented and this is a fantastic display. He’s exhibited all over the world so we’re very lucky to have this in the North West…an interesting and incredible art light display”.

The dock’s businesses also benefited from the increased footfall numbers as a result of Borealis, with many visitors choosing to enhance their Borealis experience with a meal or drink at one of the many food and drink venues.

Royal Albert Dock Estate Manager, Sean Morrison, commented:

“We’re delighted with the overwhelming response to Borealis. To see so many people, families and visitors of all ages come together to experience this unique installation has been truly special, and it has further cemented the dock’s position as one of the UK’s premier leisure destinations, offering world-class cultural experiences to all”.

Borealis is available to see until 30th March, from 7-10pm each evening on Hartley Quay next to The Pump House.
