Liverpool’s Iconic Grapes Pub Unveils Stunning New Look Following Major Refurbishment

  • July 22, 2026
  • By Editor - Elliot Thompson

One of Liverpool’s most famous pubs has unveiled a new look after undergoing a refurbishment that celebrates its rich Beatles heritage.

The Grapes on Mathew Street, a world-renowned stop on the city’s Beatles trail, officially reopened its doors following an extensive exterior transformation and interior upgrades designed to enhance the visitor experience.

Known as one of the Fab Four’s favourite watering holes during the early days of Beatlemania, the historic venue has received a refreshed appearance while staying true to its heritage.

New Look Celebrates The Pub’s Beatles History

The refurbishment has completely transformed the outside of the venue, with new doors and windows, updated signage and bespoke window vinyls creating a more striking frontage.

One of the biggest changes sees the main Grapes signage now stretching across the entire building, bringing together both sides of the property into one cohesive design.

The pub has also returned to its original heritage colour palette of red, cream and black, replacing the previous green exterior.

Further improvements include new lighting, outdoor seating, floral displays, greenery, café barriers and custom-made planters inspired by iconic Beatles album covers, paying tribute to the venue’s place in Liverpool’s musical history.

Inside, The Grapes has installed a brand-new sound system to enhance its popular programme of live music and karaoke nights.

To celebrate the reopening, the venue hosted an evening of live entertainment featuring local performers Dominic Bassnett, Helen Fulthorpe and Jessica Collins, with the first 50 visitors receiving a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival.

Karen Strickland, landlady of The Grapes, said:

“We are absolutely made up with the refurbishment, it looks amazing!

“Our kerb appeal is now the best on Mathew Street and we can’t wait for everyone to see it.

“We’ve been at The Grapes since 2019 and we’re constantly making improvements, but this facelift is just what the place needed.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone coming to Liverpool this summer to the home of the Beatles!”

A Pub Steeped In Beatles History

The Grapes has long been associated with The Beatles and Liverpool’s legendary music scene.

During the Merseybeat era, Mathew Street was home to warehouses and only a handful of pubs. As The Cavern Club did not serve alcohol in its early years, The Grapes became a favourite spot for The Beatles to enjoy a drink between performances.

The venue remains one of the city’s best-known Beatles landmarks, attracting music fans from around the world.

Chris Tulloch, Founder and Managing Director of Blind Tiger Inns, said:

“We’re delighted with the new look and proud to be keeping the traditional values of this historic landmark.

“In a city being overrun with unauthentic Irish bars it’s important to celebrate our proud history.”

The Grapes forms part of the Blind Tiger Inns portfolio, which operates more than 20 pubs across the North West, including Liverpool venues The Aigburth Arms and The Queens Arms near Aintree Racecourse.
