Wednesday 14th February marks the day of love! Shakespeare in love.. when the new micropub The Bard opens. This Shakespeare inspired pub located at 57 High Street, Prescot will open its doors to the public from 4pm this coming Valentine’s Day.
This unique pub is run by husband and wife John and Julie Marsden, owners of the Melwood Beer Company, a local family craft beer company which has been based on The Lord Derby Estate for five years. With the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot due to start building this month, The Bard’s inspiration was to create a simple, welcoming and comfortable environment that allows for a selection of quality real ales, craft beer, ciders, wines and artisan spirits to be enjoyed.
The Venue previously a vacant retail unit, has been transformed into a high quality place to visit, drink, enjoy and relax. With a limited capacity of 40-50 people there will be no TV, gaming machines or amplified music. Owner John says “Micropub’s go back full-circle to how pubs used to be, when people actually talked to one another. If you get fifteen people together in a nice environment then conversations are going to spark”.
In addition to real ales and craft beers the pub will serve local Gins, ciders, spirits and wine as well as a selection of traditional bar snacks.
The owners also have plans to bring a new Shakespeare inspired beer festival to Prescot, bringing local and national breweries, local food producers and businesses together.
The Bard is sure to be a local hotspot for places to visit when in Prescot.
