As the arts begin to reflect on a future that is more than uncertain, new North West-based publisher Hello Sunshine has been founded by Luke Chandley to offer a newer, fresher and fairer way for authors new and old to give their work to the world.
Created in response to the low royalty model that has engulfed the publishing industry, Hello Sunshine aims to drag the publishing game back towards the authors, whilst offering an outlet for new writers to produce interesting and exciting work.
“It’s not the fault of the industry, or anyone in it, but for a long time authors have been the last to see any form of actual return on their work, aside from the advance given which is often not covered in sales when the book is released. After working as a writer for 5 years, I’ve sampled the frustration and delights of being a writer in the 21st Century” said Luke, founder of Hello Sunshine Publishing.
“Whilst big publishing houses scramble to cover costs on books that don’t hit big, our model is to be selective, but in this selection champion fresh voices and ideas whilst also encouraging creative risk. This approach, whilst offering a greater return to the authors themselves, is a direction we think the industry needs to go” says Luke.
Before founding this start-up, Luke Chandley’s experience of both publication writing, copywriting and digital marketing spanned over 5 years, creating a successful company, Sunshine Writing Co, producer of business-focused copy, social content and content management for small businesses. He continued this role to this day.
This new venture will serve as a full-service publishing house to their writers, marketing their books in a way that is suitable and cost-effective to today’s digital age, with a focus on value and quality, not quantity.
Hello Sunshine’s initial focus will be on stories for young adults, but are accepting any submission from new or existing writers. Every submission will receive feedback, where they will encourage improvement in a positive, constructive and actionable way.
