Liverpool charity fundraiser Speedo Mick has been given a new pair of glasses by family-run opticians Winstanley & Son in Dingle, after experiencing problems with his eyesight.
The much-loved Everton supporter, known for his fundraising challenges wearing just his swimming trunks, visited the Park Road shop this week sporting his famous Everton trunks and fur hat.

During his visit, the team at Winstanley & Son fitted Mick with a new pair of glasses free of charge, helping the local fundraiser overcome the vision problems he had been experiencing.
Gavin Winstanley, owner of the Liverpool opticians, explained why the business wanted to help.
“He’d been having problems with his vision. He was leaving his glasses all over the place. We’d like to support him. He’s a local hero and it’s been a pleasure to have him in.”
Speedo Mick delighted with new glasses
The glasses feature Essilor Varilux XR varifocal lenses with Transitions technology, allowing them to darken automatically when exposed to sunlight.
The lenses were professionally measured and fitted at Winstanley & Son’s Park Road practice to ensure Mick received the right support for his eyesight.
Reacting to the generous gesture, Speedo Mick said:
“That’s a present and a half. You’ve just given me my eyesight back, basically.”
Since receiving his new glasses, Mick has already been spotted wearing them during an appearance on BBC Breakfast.
Liverpool family business supports local fundraising hero
Winstanley & Son has been based on Park Road in Dingle since 1998, providing specialist eyewear services to the local community for more than 25 years.
The independent family business offers private and NHS eye examinations, specialist varifocal fittings and bespoke eyewear created in its own workshop above the shop.
Gavin said the decision to support Speedo Mick was a way of recognising everything he has done for Liverpool and the wider community.
“We’re a Liverpool family business and we’ve been here over 25 years. Varifocals are what we do. Mick has done a lot for this city, so we were glad to do something for him.”
Speedo Mick has become a familiar face across Merseyside and beyond through his extraordinary fundraising efforts, often taking on demanding challenges wearing his trademark swimming trunks.
