With the Tour de France set to arrive in Knowsley in 2027, residents are being encouraged to get inspired and start cycling with the launch of British Cycling’s brand-new Sofa to Saddle app.
The new programme has been designed to help people who are new to cycling build confidence, improve fitness and turn riding a bike into a regular habit.
Described as a cycling equivalent of Couch to 5K, the Sofa to Saddle app in Knowsley provides an eight-week programme that gradually supports users as they become more comfortable on two wheels.
New cycling app aims to get more people riding
Launching across all major app stores on Wednesday 22 July, Sofa to Saddle is part of British Cycling’s ambition to encourage one million people to take up cycling by 2028.
The programme has been created for people of all abilities and avoids complicated cycling terminology, allowing users to complete sessions around their own schedules.
Whether someone is returning to cycling after years away or getting on a bike for the first time, the app provides guidance to help build a healthier lifestyle at a manageable pace.
Knowsley residents encouraged to prepare for Tour de France
The launch comes as excitement continues to build ahead of the Tour de France Grand Depart GB coming to Knowsley in 2027.
Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Councillor Christine Bannon, said cycling is a great way to improve health and wellbeing, with the arrival of the world-famous race providing the perfect opportunity for residents to get started.
Knowsley offers a range of cycling routes for people looking to explore the borough, including its parks and sections of the TransPennine Trail.
The Sofa to Saddle app is available to download now by searching “Sofa to Saddle” on app stores, with more information available here.
