Golf fans will be able to enjoy a very special evening with a Ryder Cup-winning captain this summer as The 154th Open Golf Championship takes place at the nearby Royal Birkdale Golf Club.
An Evening With Bernard Gallacher OBE will take place at Oak Theatre and Studios at Scarisbrick Hall School, near Southport, on Friday 17th July 2026.
The school has a proud golfing tradition, with one of the favourites for The Open, Tommy Fleetwood, among former pupils.
A Career at the Heart of the Ryder Cup
Bernard Gallacher OBE became one of the leading figures on The European Tour in the 1970s and 1980s, captaining Europe three times.
He famously captained the European team to victory in the 1995 Ryder Cup.
In 1969, at the age of 20, Gallacher became the youngest man to represent Great Britain in the Ryder Cup up to that time.
He went on to play in the Ryder Cup eight times and served as Captain in 1991, 1993, and 1995.
Beyond the Ryder Cup, he accumulated ten wins on the European Tour between 1974 and 1984 and finished 1969 as the Order of Merit winner, earning the Harry Vardon Trophy.
An Unmissable Event During The Open
This unique event is timed to coincide with the 154th Open Golf Championship taking place at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport from 12th–19th July 2026.

Organisers are also keeping a close eye on the championship standings, with Tom Cain adding:
“Tommy Fleetwood is a former pupil at Scarisbrick Hall School and we are all hoping he’ll be at the top of The Open Leader Board, or close to it, when this talk takes place!”
There are General and VIP options available, with the VIP package offering front-row seats and a Meet and Greet with Bernard Gallacher from 7pm.
This interview will not be televised, offering guests a rare opportunity to be part of the action.
