Filming for Sir Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated Beatles biopics has continued at one of Liverpool’s most famous musical landmarks, with actors Paul Mescal and Harris Dickinson spotted shooting scenes outside John Lennon’s childhood home.
The latest filming took place at Mendips on Menlove Avenue, where the production recreated a scene from the early years of The Beatles, complete with period vehicles, a double-decker bus and supporting artists dressed for the era.

Images capture director Sam Mendes working alongside Mescal, who portrays Paul McCartney, and Dickinson, who takes on the role of John Lennon.
Beatles stars recreate scenes outside Mendips
The production transformed the area surrounding Lennon’s former home, with vintage cars and a period double-decker bus helping to recreate the atmosphere of Liverpool in the band’s early years.
Supporting artists were filmed walking along both sides of Menlove Avenue, bringing the street scene to life as cameras rolled outside the historic property.

As daylight faded, Mescal and Dickinson were photographed filming a scene in which their characters walked back towards Lennon’s childhood home carrying guitars.
The early evening setting provided an atmospheric backdrop for the sequence, with the two actors appearing together outside a property that played an important part in Lennon’s early life.

The photographs also offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the production, with Sam Mendes seen talking through the scene with Mescal and Dickinson.
Other images capture the director sharing a laugh with the two actors between filming, offering a more relaxed look at the stars working on the major production.

Mendes, whose previous directing credits include Skyfall, 1917 and American Beauty, is overseeing the ambitious project, which will consist of four interconnected films exploring the story of The Beatles from each band member’s perspective.
Filming wraps in Liverpool for now
According to the photographer who witnessed the latest scenes, the Mendips shoot marked the final day of the production’s current filming schedule in Liverpool.

The production is understood to be planning a return to the city early next year, although further filming dates and locations have yet to be officially confirmed.
Over recent weeks, Liverpool has once again provided the backdrop for several scenes from the upcoming films, with production crews recreating moments from the band’s early history at locations closely connected to their story.
Explore Liverpool has previously shared exclusive photographs from filming at Gambier Terrace, where scenes recreated John Lennon leaving for Hamburg, as well as filming outside the former Liverpool College of Art, now part of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA).
The Beatles return to the big screen
Titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, the project will tell the story of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr through four separate but interconnected films.
Alongside Harris Dickinson and Paul Mescal, the cast includes Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
The films are scheduled for a theatrical release in April 2028.
With Liverpool playing such an important role in the history of The Beatles, the city’s streets and historic landmarks have provided an appropriate setting for scenes exploring the band’s remarkable journey.
