Liverpool icon Paul McCartney has given fans a moment they’ll never forget, stepping into the room unannounced as he premiered brand new music, including a rare collaboration with Ringo Starr.
The intimate event took place at Abbey Road Studios, where just 50 lucky fans were invited for an exclusive first listen to McCartney’s upcoming album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.

A surprise inside one of music’s most famous rooms
Inside Studio Two, the same space where so many Beatles records were brought to life, the setting had been transformed into something far more personal. With an armchair, guitar and shelves of memorabilia, it felt less like a studio and more like a living room.
Fans were expecting a listening session. What they didn’t expect was McCartney himself walking in.
As the room fell silent, the Liverpool legend appeared from the control room, greeting fans before guiding them through the album track by track, sharing stories, memories and the thinking behind the music.

A story that leads back to Liverpool
Across the session, McCartney reflected on his early life growing up in Liverpool, and it’s clear those roots run right through the album.
The title The Boys of Dungeon Lane is a direct nod to the area near the River Mersey where he spent time as a child. Referenced within the album, it captures moments of youth, friendship and the kind of memories that stay with you for life.
For those in Liverpool, it’s a detail that makes this release feel even more personal, a reminder that no matter how far the journey goes, it always leads back home.
A deeply personal new chapter
Marking his first solo album in over five years, the record is said to be one of McCartney’s most reflective to date. Themes of family, post-war Liverpool and the early days of The Beatles run throughout.
Musically, it blends everything fans know and love from stripped-back acoustic moments to richer, layered sounds with McCartney once again taking a hands-on approach across multiple instruments.
A rare Beatles reunion
Among the standout moments is Home to Us, a new track featuring Ringo Starr, a collaboration that will instantly capture the attention of Beatles fans around the world.
The song also brings in Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri, adding even more depth to what is already shaping up to be a special release.
Looking ahead to release day
The Boys of Dungeon Lane is set for release on 29 May, with anticipation already building following the exclusive preview.
The new single with Ringo Starr will be released on Friday, 8 May 2026.
Moments like this show that while decades have passed since The Beatles first emerged from Liverpool, the connection between the city, its music and its most famous voices remains as strong as ever.
From Studio Two to Dungeon Lane, this is a story that comes full circle.
