Hill Dickinson Stadium to host first drive-in cinema this August Bank Holiday

Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium will host its first-ever drive-in cinema this August Bank Holiday weekend as Movies On The Mersey brings three days of big-screen entertainment to Liverpool’s waterfront.

Taking place from Saturday 29 August to Monday 31 August, the event will transform the stadium footprint into a unique outdoor cinema, with visitors able to enjoy films from the comfort of their own vehicles while overlooking the River Mersey.

Guests will watch each film on a giant LED screen and tune into the audio through their car radio using an FM transmitter, creating a classic drive-in cinema experience at Everton’s new home.

Several films to pick from with Classics, family favourites and Everton specials available

The weekend begins on Saturday 29 August with Disney-Pixar favourite Finding Nemo at 6pm, followed by the hit musical Mamma Mia! at 9pm.

On Sunday 30 August, Grease will be shown at 6pm before the iconic sci-fi comedy Back to the Future takes to the big screen at 9pm.

Tickets for the Saturday and Sunday screenings cost £30 per vehicle, with each booking including entry to the stadium footprint, a designated parking space with a clear view of the screen and in-car audio.

The event concludes on Bank Holiday Monday with a special 7.30pm screening of Howard’s Way. Entry for the final screening will operate on a pay-what-you-want basis, with every donation supporting the work of Everton in the Community. Although entry is donation-based, places must still be booked in advance.

Visitors who prefer not to attend by car can also enjoy the event from a dedicated lawn area, where guests are welcome to bring their own chairs. Lawn tickets are priced at £10 per person.

Food and drink vendors, along with toilet and refreshment facilities, will be available throughout the three-day event.

Aaron Duckmanton, Chief Revenue Officer at Everton Football Club, said:

“Movies on the Mersey is another exciting first for Hill Dickinson Stadium and a brilliant way for people to experience the venue in a completely different setting.

“We wanted to create something that feels accessible, fun and memorable for families, supporters and visitors to the city during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

“The film programme offers something for everyone, from family films and musical classics to a special Everton screening of Howard’s Way in support of Everton in the Community.

“To be able to bring people together on the waterfront for a new family-friendly event, while also supporting Everton in the Community, makes this a really special addition to our summer events programme.”

Tickets for Movies On The Mersey are available here.
