Lockdown may have felt to many like life has been put on hold, but some lucky Liverpool residents have managed to find love even with restrictions in place, a new study reveals.

A survey of 2,000 UK adults, carried out by One4all Gift Cards, reveals 72,515 residents in Liverpool found love during the pandemic and have been embracing the new social distancing measures.

The research further revealed that love was on the agenda for many, as a quarter (25%) of Liverpool residents have proactively looked for someone to date during the pandemic.

Looking at how the nation has adapted their dating life to adhere to social distancing measures, the research found that watching a film together is the most popular way to do a socially distanced date (25%), followed by a simple phone call (13%), while the same number enjoyed chatting on a video call.

More than 1 in 10 (13%) have watched a Netflix series together with their date, while the same number have opted for a virtual games night, which completed the top five most popular lockdown dates.

When asked how they were meeting someone for a potential date, through friends (30%) topped the list, followed by dating apps, such as Tinder and Bumble (23%), work (12%), and using dating sites (15%) were the most popular methods amongst those who have been dating.

The research further revealed what Liverpudlians enjoy most about dating life, with 24% confessing they like the excitement of meeting someone new, while 21% say that it makes them feel good that someone is interested in dating them.

Almost 1 in 5 (15%) say it is nice to dress up for the occasion, while 12% are excited by the prospect of meeting a future partner.

The research did reveal that lockdown restrictions have impacted on some, as 45,322 Liverpool residents confess to being forced apart from their partners.

Aoife Davey, Senior Marketing Director at One4all Gift Cards, comments on the findings:

“Lockdown has been a huge challenge for the nation, but it’s wonderful to see that against all the odds, many new romances have blossomed over the past 12 months despite the hardest of circumstances.

“This research really goes to show how the nation has adapted their dating habits to maintain and forge connections with one another. And as we face a Valentine’s Day under lockdown restrictions – there’s no better time to reach out to loved ones with a special token to show them how much they mean to you – and the brilliant thing is, this can all be done virtually. Why not send them a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates, or treat them to a One4all Digital Gift Card which can be delivered straight to their phone.”

Top 5 most popular lockdown dates:

  1. Watching a film virtually
  2. Watch a Netflix series virtually together
