Merseyrail become latest signatory of the innovative Railway Mental Health Charter ahead of National Mental Health Awareness week

Merseyrail has become the latest signatory of the innovative Railway Mental Health Charter (RMHC).

The Charter which has been developed in collaboration with the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) and the Mental Wellbeing Group, aims to end mental health stigma, get conversations about mental wellbeing underway and create an open, inclusive culture where all colleagues know where and when to ask for support across the UK rail industry.

This marks the latest in a number of steps that the City Region’s rail operator has taken to support it’s approximately 1200 employees in managing their own mental health.  This has included running a series of interactive sessions with colleagues to talk openly and candidly about mental health, highlighting the work being done by it’s team of Mental Health First Aiders and raising awareness of the dedicated support programme it offers to all colleagues.

The organisations decision to sign the Charter coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week which is being celebrated this week across the UK.

Andy Heath, Merseyrail’s Managing Director said:

“Merseyrail are proud to have signed the Railway Mental Health Charter (RMHC) which demonstrates our firm commitment to supporting our staff’s mental wellbeing in the workplace.

The Charter will support Merseyrail’s ongoing work in creating an environment where conversations about mental health are normal and will allow us to continually learn about how best to support our colleagues.

By being part of this community, we will continue to build on the work we have done so far and the fantastic mental wellbeing support services we have for our staff.”
