Liverpool TV and stage star Jennifer Ellison is set to join the cast of the hit musical Mean Girls, adding another major theatre role to an extensive career spanning the West End, television and film.
The Liverpudlian performer has a wealth of stage experience, with West End credits including Singin’ In The Rain and Boeing Boeing, while she has also played Roxie Hart in the UK tour of Chicago, which included a successful run at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
Her other theatre credits include UK tours of Greatest Days, Legally Blonde and Calendar Girls, as well as the UK arena tour of The War Of The Worlds.
Jennifer is also well known for her television career, having first risen to prominence in Channel 4 soap Brookside. Her acting credits include ITV dramas The Commander: Abduction, The Brief and The Bill, alongside BBC productions Hotel Babylon, The Nativity and New Street Law.
She is currently appearing on screens in ITV comedy G’Wed.
Away from acting, Jennifer has appeared in a number of high-profile entertainment shows. She was a semi-finalist on ITV’s Dancing On Ice and later took part in its national tour, while she was crowned the winner of Hell’s Kitchen.
Her other television appearances include Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins, ITV’s With a Little Help From My Friends, judging duties on Dirty Dancing – The Time of Your Life and regular appearances as a guest on Loose Women.
Jennifer also fronted the UK version of hit US reality series Dance Moms for Lifetime, which followed life at her own Liverpool dance school and college, Jelli Studios.
Her film credits include playing Meg Giry in Warner Bros’ The Phantom of the Opera and Tracey in horror comedy The Cottage.

Jennifer joins a cast led by Emily Lane as Cady Heron and Vivian Panka as Regina George, alongside Kiara Dario as Gretchen Wieners, Sophie Pourret as Karen Smith, Georgie Buckland as Janis Sarkisian, Max Gill as Damian Hubbard, Ben Oatley as Aaron Samuels, Karim Zeroual as Kevin Ganatra and Joshua Elmore as Mr Duvall.
Based on the iconic Paramount Pictures film, Mean Girls follows home-schooled Cady Heron as she enters North Shore High and finds herself navigating a ruthless new social hierarchy ruled by Regina George and fellow Plastics Gretchen and Karen.
After devising a plan to bring Regina’s reign to an end, Cady quickly discovers that taking on the school’s queen bee comes with consequences.
Featuring the much-loved characters from the film alongside razor-sharp comedy and a soundtrack of original songs, the musical has become a major international stage success.
Mean Girls gave its first West End performance at London’s Savoy Theatre on 5 June 2024, where it was seen by more than 330,000 people before completing its run on 8 June 2025.
The production went on to win Best New Musical at the 2025 WhatsOnStage Awards.
The musical originally received its world premiere at the National Theatre in Washington DC in 2017 before opening at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre in April 2018.
A successful first US tour followed in 2019, with a second American tour subsequently taking the production to audiences across the country.
The stage musical features a book by Mean Girls creator Tina Fey and builds on the enduring popularity of the original film, which also inspired Paramount Pictures’ 2024 musical movie adaptation.
