Liverpool John Lennon Airport launches dedicated Bolt scooter and e-bike parking bays

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has partnered with Bolt to introduce dedicated parking bays for shared e-scooters and e-bikes, offering airport staff and passengers a convenient and sustainable way to travel.

The new parking area is located close to the airport’s main employee entrance, within the free drop-off and pick-up car park, and is designed to improve access for people travelling between the airport and nearby communities.

The partnership is expected to be particularly beneficial for employees working early-morning and late-night shifts, when public transport services to and from the airport are limited or unavailable.

With the first flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport typically departing at around 6am throughout the year, colleagues working in check-in, security, operations and retail are often required to arrive well before public transport begins running.

Many employees currently have little choice but to drive or take a taxi to reach the airport for early shifts.

Bolt’s e-scooters and e-bikes operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing staff with a more affordable and lower-emission alternative.

The service is also available to passengers travelling light, offering a last-mile transport option between the airport and surrounding areas, including Speke and Garston.

Robin Tudor, LJLA’s Head of PR & Communications commented:

“Staff working on shifts here that start and end outside of public transport operating hours are always looking for transport alternatives, particularly if they don’t have access to a car and so we are really pleased to be working with Bolt to help resolve some of these issues.”

Georgia Heathman, Bolt’s UK Policy Lead, said:

“Getting to the airport for an early shift isn’t easy. By working with Liverpool John Lennon Airport to install dedicated parking bays, we’re giving staff a reliable, affordable way to start and end their day, and offering passengers a sustainable last-mile option.”

Bolt launched its Liverpool-wide e-scooter and e-bike service earlier this year, bringing shared micromobility to south Liverpool for the first time.

The company currently operates a fleet of 2,000 e-scooters and 150 e-bikes across the city.

Its Liverpool fleet includes the UK’s first solar-assisted shared e-bikes, as well as distance-based pricing intended to encourage slower and safer journeys.

Other safety measures include artificial intelligence-powered parking validation and a pre-ride test designed to prevent people from riding while under the influence of alcohol.

Research commissioned by Bolt found that four in ten UK e-bike users ride to railway stations or other transport hubs, while more than a third use the vehicles to commute to work.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport believes the new facility will provide an important additional transport option while supporting its commitment to improve sustainable access for employees and passengers.

The partnership also marks Bolt’s latest investment in sustainable urban transport following the company’s wider Liverpool launch earlier this year.
