This weekend sees the start of the busiest time of the year for Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA), as the school holidays begin for many families from across the region.
Thousands of passengers from across the North West and North Wales are expected to jet off abroad from Liverpool for their main holiday over the coming weeks, taking advantage of the great choice of destinations available and Liverpool Airport’s award winning customer experience.
Around 635,000 passengers are due to pass through the Airport over the next six weeks making this the busiest summer season for the Airport since 2019 – the last summer before the impact on aviation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Passenger numbers over the school holiday period are expected to be 22% higher than last year due to a number of new and additional flights. These include a new service to Dublin and onwards connections to the US with Aer Lingus, more flights with Lufthansa to Frankfurt and beyond, a new route to Corfu with easyJet and to Ibiza, Madrid and Shannon with Ryanair.
The busiest day of the summer is set to be Friday 18th August with over 16,000 passengers expected that day alone.
Mediterranean and sunshine resorts including Faro, Malaga, Palma, Alicante, Tenerife, Dalaman, Antalya, Reus, Larnaca and Lanzarote are expected to be amongst the most popular, with passengers keen to get away from the unsettled UK weather of recent weeks, with high volumes of passenger traffic also expected on city break flights to Dublin, Belfast, Barcelona, Nice and Amsterdam.
Airport management continue to remind travellers to allow plenty of time to pass through the Airport during peak periods, recommending that passengers arrive at the Airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time and to continue to think carefully about items in their hand luggage with liquid restrictions still in place.
Robin Tudor, Head of PR at LJLA commented:
“Liverpool is well known now as an award winning airport that gives passengers a great customer experience helping to get their holiday off to a relaxed, hassle free start and we look forward to welcoming thousands of the region’s holidaymakers who will be taking advantage of these benefits and choosing to start their holiday by flying from Liverpool over the next few weeks.”
