People in Liverpool were treated to the ultimate buffet experience this week as a major supermarket chain brought a record-breaking culinary stunt to the city.
Iceland Foods has unveiled a giant picky bits table in Liverpool, packed with more than 15,000 snacks, including 1,500 sausage rolls, 1,000 cocktail sausages, 800 Scotch eggs and 112kg of cheese, in what it claims is an unofficial world record.
More than half of Brits (52%) say they couldn’t live without picky bits, while 63% enjoy them for tea at least once a week, and 70% would choose them over a takeaway.
Brits are expected to eat more than five billion sausage rolls, cheddar cheese cubes and cocktail sausages this summer, with the average person consuming more than 78 picky bit favourites over summer.
The ultimate picky bits paradise featured a whopping 65ft long table stacked high with thousands of bite-sized snacks.
The 162 square ft picky bits party table was hosted in the picky bits capital of the UK, Liverpool, where 71% of residents admitted they are more likely to attend a summer get together if picky bits are being provided.
The goods were plated up to the delight of hundreds of local picky bit fans who turned up to devour the feast.
Located at Sefton Park’s Palm House, the spread was so big that a drone was needed to fly above to capture the entire length in all its glory.
An Iceland Foods spokesperson said:
“When our research revealed just how much Britain loves picky bits, there was only one thing for it, and that was for us to build a giant picky bits spread with the nation’s favourite bites.
“Picky bits have become a bit of a national obsession, so we wanted to celebrate them in the biggest way possible.
“Seeing hundreds of people come together to tuck into the feast was a real celebration of the nation’s love for this type of food and proves just how much Brits enjoy it.”
The unofficial record spread was stacked entirely with Iceland’s biggest-selling picky bits, with every item carefully chosen from the retailer’s popular summer range.
