Health Through Sport

Founded in 2005 by ex-professional footballer Ronny Goodlass, Health Through Sport is a registered Charity that delivers football coaching to vulnerable and disadvantaged youngsters across Merseyside.

The charity looks to achieve the outcome of ‘Every Child Matters’ – to be healthy, stay healthy, enjoy and achieve and to make a positive contribution and achieve economic wellbeing.

Its overall aim is to help youngsters participate in an enjoyable activity in a safe and friendly environment.  Firmly believing that playing sport leads to a much healthier and active lifestyle in an age when there are so many other less desirable attractions.

Health Through Sport is geared towards improving fitness levels with advice on healthy eating, and with trips around the country and abroad, it can help to educate the children and broaden their horizons.

Sport can be the channel through which children can engage positively with each other and their communities. They can adopt a healthier and more disciplined way of living, all fuelled with the sheer joy and excitement that sport can offer.

The charity has links with Active City, Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police Authority, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Everton Football Club, Liverpool Football Club, Primary Care Trust and Taste for Health. In addition, its work has been endorsed by Lord Grantchester, Bill Kenwright, Joe Rolye (Patron), Dr David France, Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson and Peter Mitchell.

In order to carry out work, Health Through Sport is reliant upon grant funding, donations, the generosity of individuals and fundraising activities such as bi-annual Sportsperson’s Dinners (held at the Devonshire House Hotel in Liverpool). However, the cost of providing support to those most in need continues to escalate. As an ever-increasing burden is placed on the charity, their plans to expand into more areas of Merseyside are being placed in jeopardy.

If you feel that you, your company or organisation can make a financial contribution to such a worthwhile cause, the charity would be extremely grateful. Rest assured all donations are put to the most effective use possible delivering the charity’s aims and objectives.
