Children and young people across Knowsley can enjoy free swimming sessions throughout the summer holidays thanks to funding from Knowsley Council.
The free swimming for children in Knowsley scheme allows under-16s to access swimming sessions at Volair leisure centres during public swim times from Tuesday 21 July until Monday 31 August 2026.
The initiative has been introduced to encourage more children and young people to stay active, build confidence in the water and make the most of local leisure facilities during the school holidays.
Free swimming is available at Volair Huyton, Volair Kirkby and Volair Stockbridge throughout the summer, while children can also swim for free at Volair Halewood until Monday 10 August before the pool closes for refurbishment works.
Free Summer Swimming Sessions Available At Volair Leisure Centres
The scheme gives families across the borough the chance to enjoy swimming without the usual cost, whether children are learning to swim, improving their skills or simply looking for a fun activity during the holidays.
The participating leisure centres include Volair Huyton on Longview Drive, Volair Kirkby on Cherryfield Drive, Volair Stockbridge on The Withens in Stockbridge Village and Volair Halewood on Baileys Lane.
Families are advised to check the latest public swimming timetables before visiting by using the Volair website or downloading the free Volair app, available through Google Play and the App Store.
Alongside the summer swimming offer, Volair continues to provide disability-friendly swimming sessions at Volair Stockbridge Village.
The SEN swimming sessions take place every Saturday and Sunday from 2pm until 3pm, giving children and young people the opportunity to enjoy a more accessible swimming environment.
Under-16s can attend these sessions for free during the summer holiday period.
Anyone needing specific accessibility information can contact Volair directly on 0151 443 2200.
Pool Safety Rules For Families
While children under 16 can access free swimming sessions, Volair has reminded families that normal pool safety rules remain in place.
Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by a responsible adult, with a maximum ratio of one adult to two children.
Parents or guardians must also provide supervision if a child requires one-to-one support or has limitations in the water.
Adult swimming sessions remain available at the usual cost of £6.40 per session.
The free swimming programme runs across Knowsley throughout the summer holidays, giving local families the chance to stay active and enjoy the borough’s leisure facilities.
