Everton Legends led by Tim Cahill to compete in Cannes futsal tournament

An Everton Legends team led by Tim Cahill will take part in Cannes Legends 2026, as some of the biggest names in European football come together for a special futsal tournament in the south of France.

The second edition of Cannes Legends will take place at the Palais des Victoires in Cannes on Saturday 12 September, bringing together former players from Everton, AS Cannes, Olympique de Marseille and the France national team for an evening of football and entertainment in support of Association Adrien.

Everton favourite Cahill will be joined by fellow former Blues Olivier Dacourt, Louis Saha, Phil Jagielka, Joseph Yobo, Stephen Pienaar, Jan Mucha, Jose Baxter, Joleon Lescott and Marco Materazzi.

The tournament will also feature some of the most recognisable players of their generation, including Claude Makélélé, Robert Pirès, Franck Ribéry, Steve Mandanda, Sébastien Frey and Jonathan Zebina.

Frey will be a familiar name to Evertonians, having been Fiorentina’s goalkeeper when the Italian side beat the Blues 2-0 in Florence in the UEFA Cup in 2008 – a game in which Cahill also featured.

In the return leg at a raucous Goodison Park, Everton produced a stirring comeback to win 2-0 and level the tie on aggregate, before Frey played a decisive role as Fiorentina eventually progressed on penalties.

Further names are still to be announced ahead of the tournament.

Following a successful inaugural event, Cannes Legends returns with an expanded programme combining competitive futsal with live entertainment and a strong charitable focus.

The four-team tournament will see the former stars compete in the fast-paced, close-contact format of futsal, giving supporters the chance to see some of football’s most celebrated names back in action at close quarters.

Away from the matches, supporters can also look forward to live music, freestyle football, entertainment, special appearances and performances throughout the evening.

A central aim of Cannes Legends is to raise funds and awareness for Association Adrien, with proceeds from the event supporting the organisation and the causes it represents.

Association Adrien is a French non-profit charity founded in 2005 by René Molines in memory of his son Adrien, who died from a rare illness aged just 25 months.

The organisation supports seriously ill and disabled children while also providing help and assistance to their families.

By bringing together former players, artists, partners and supporters, the event aims to use the reach of football to make a positive impact while providing a memorable evening of sport and entertainment.

Everton supporters can also join the Legends on the French Riviera through a special experience offering VIP access to the AS Cannes Legends Futsal Tournament and a gala dinner on Saturday 12 September.
