Sunday 13th October will see runners come together for the city’s first ever Everton-themed ‘If You Know Your History’ 5K and show their support for Everton in the Community’s mental health fundraising campaign, The People’s Place.

Taking competitors on a 5K journey through 141 years of Everton Football Club’s history, the run will also raise vital funds for ‘The People’s Place’, Everton in the Community’s fundraising campaign to build and develop a purpose-built mental health facility to support anyone in times of need.

The inaugural run is open to all the family and welcomes both runners and walkers, with Everton Giants Joe Royle and Duncan Ferguson officially starting the race, accompanied by Lord Mayor Councillor Anna Rothery.

It will start at 9.30am with start line stage activity from 9am. It will begin at the 1787 Lock-Up Tower – which sits at the heart of the Everton crest – and on the journey to Goodison Park will take in the historical sites of the original Everton Toffee Shop and the site of the former Queen’s Head Hotel where in November 1879, St Domingo’s FC became Everton Football Club.

Competitors will then journey to the Sandon Pub on Oakfield Road – which became the Club’s second headquarters in 1884 – before passing into Stanley Park where Everton first played in 1878 before moving forwards towards Priory Road where the Blues played for three seasons between 1881 and 1884.

Turning left in the park will lead participants towards Goodison Park, home of Everton Football Club since 1892 and finish in view of the Sir Philip Park End Stand.

Organised in partnership with BTR Liverpool, the ‘If You Know Your History’ event will include various information points along the route that will be staffed by Friends of Everton Park and the Everton Heritage Society.

The 5K entry fee includes a commemorative tee-shirt and a finishers medal. Competitors are encouraged to fundraise with all funds going to ‘The People’s Place’ and will see Everton in the Community develop a delivery site for the charity’s existing mental health programmes and enable signposting to other services.

‘The People’s Place’ will provide an overarching service to anyone, regardless of age, gender, location or football colours, to promote positive mental health and deliver support relating to suicide awareness and prevention.

BTR Liverpool organise and deliver the event. The entry fee pays to stage and deliver all aspects of the event.

The ’If You Know Your History’ 5K is on Sunday 13 October, commencing at the Everton Lock-Up Tower at 9.30am.ark. The 5K fun starts at 9.30am, followed by the 1 Mile fun run at approximately 11am.

Limited cash-only entries will be available on the day. Full details can be found at www.btrliverpool.com/iykyh
