This August, Liverpool’s iconic Penny Lane will once again burst into life as the Penny Lane Weekender returns for its third year — a three-day grassroots festival spotlighting independent music and local talent.
Launched in 2023 by Liverpool post-punk band Pleasure Island, the event began as a one-off gig at Dovedale Towers, once home to Freddie Mercury. However, overwhelming demand quickly transformed it into a multi-venue celebration. Now an annual staple, the festival spans several venues in and around Penny Lane, showcasing emerging artists from Liverpool and beyond.
With over 125 grassroots venues closing in the UK last year alone (Music Venue Trust), events like the Penny Lane Weekender are more vital than ever. The festival not only champions emerging artists but continues to build on the rich musical heritage of Penny Lane — a place synonymous with creativity, community, and cultural impact.
