Southport will be transformed into a world of stories, imagination and creativity this October half term as Books Alive!arrives in the town from 24–31 October 2026.
The free family festival will bring children’s books to life through interactive trails, author events, performances, workshops and immersive activities taking place across Southport.
One of the highlights will be The Jolly Postman Trail, inspired by the much-loved children’s book as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. Families will be able to explore large-scale interactive installations positioned around Southport town centre.
There will also be a Festival of Stories at The Atkinson and Southport Library, featuring appearances from children’s authors alongside theatre performances, workshops and creative activities.
Across the wider town centre, the Books Alive! Fringe Festival will see local businesses and venues host their own book-themed activities and experiences for families.
Books Alive! is primarily designed for primary school-aged children and their families, although many of the activities will be suitable for visitors and book lovers of all ages.
All activities are free to attend. Some Festival of Stories events at The Atkinson and Southport Library will require advance booking, with ticket details and the full programme due to be announced.
