Think summer has been cancelled with no big festivals to attend? Then you would be wrong as the Liverpool’s Lantern Company have launched ‘DIY Micro Festival Kit’ to kick start the party on your doorstep!

The brand new micro ‘DIY Micro Festival Kit‘, encouraging people everywhere to claim a little bit of their lost summer back, whilst safely connecting with their neighbours.

The Street by Street Creative activities have been specially designed by a collection of North West artists to help get neighbours connected by kick starting festivities across the country’s streets. Residents can enjoy the activities in any way they want – at home anytime, or as a way of connecting with those next door.

Lantern Company are aiming to inspire families and friends to come together in their local block, street, or green spaces, in a safe and socially distanced way, to have a mini celebration, with local communities adding many more creative and cultural activities into the mix.

The online kit includes step-by-step guides for a host of activities, including; dance with Sally Hendry of Company D.N.A; artwork with Emily Lansley aka GloMoth; food and drink with Beccy Hillam; puppetry with Austin Mitchell Hewitt of Altered Scale Theatre; street games with Kate Reilly James; and music with with Giacomo Fazi aka Jacques Malchance.

Jo Pocock, Artistic Director at Lantern Company, said

“During the pandemic, what we’ve missed the most is being able to bring people together at our events. Especially the feeling of connection and unity through creative action for audiences, participants and our team alike. We chose themes of music, dance, food and drink, artwork and street games, as the essential ingredients for any festival”. Jackie Swanson, Project Director, adds “The idea of a festival on your street may seem very difficult during the pandemic, but its still important to feel connected and have fun. As long as safety guidelines are kept to, there is no reason why we can’t still come together, be creative and celebrate.”

Alongside the step-by-step guides, Lantern Company have also provided lots of helpful hints and health and safety guidance to ensure all the activities are carried out without breaking social distancing rules.
