Abstract figurative artist Daniel Meakin has been selling his work internationally for more than 30 years. He holds degrees in fine art and European fine art as well as a master’s degree. After operating a gallery in Barcelona, the renowned artist has exhibited, sold, and continues to receive commissions of his paintings internationally in Europe, the United States, and Australia. Currently residing in Wirral, he will showcase some of his best pieces at Start Yard.
Up to 25 of his abstract landscape masterpieces, quirky artwork that exudes charm and personality, will be available for purchase or viewing in If Walls Could Talk. Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm and on Friday from 9 am to 8 pm A piece of old furniture will be transformed into a work of art live in front of the audience at the launch event on Friday, April 26. Daniel picked up this passion while living in Barcelona.
Daniel explained:
“I lived in Barcelona for many years after being placed there as part of my Masters Degree. I ran a gallery there and hosted countless exhibitions. One of the things I’d do over there is collect old furniture people discarded and turn them into wonderful pieces of art as a live performance in exhibitions and festivals. People loved it so I’m really looking forward to doing this in Wirral.”
“I moved to West Kirby in 2022 and instantly fell in love with the area. Whilst I mostly sell commissions internationally, my local exhibitions have been really well received and have showcased my work at West Kirby Arts Centre, The Everyman Theatre, Wirral Open Studios and Dot Art. The Start Yard exhibition will be particularly special as I’m integrating my love of furniture restoration at the launch event.”
Daniel’s artwork is regarded as one of the best in his field and has attracted the interest of global collectors, such as JP Morgan, one of the biggest investors. He has saved some of his best work for this thrilling month-long exhibition in Start Yard, Wirral, for art enthusiasts to enjoy.
Daniel said:
“I am influenced by artists such as Antoni Tapies and Robert Rauschenberg for their use of found materials, textures and collage, and painters such as David Hockney and Friedensreich Hundertwasser for their use of colour and form. My work is very bright and colourful — portraying urban landscapes and industrial settings in fresh, vibrant ways.”
Daniel’s artwork has amazed art enthusiasts all over, igniting discussion and exuberant feelings in countless admirers. His goal has been to use colour to bring urban landscapes to life, and for more than 30 years, his work has been and still is a conversation starter.
Of Daniel, an art critic recently said:
“Daniel’s paintings are exceptionally multi-coloured, overjoyed, and stimulating – waking us from our unaware slumber. Not only are his paintings fused with academic fundamentals of art, like form, colour, and texture, but also screech the maximalist style in a fashionable sensibility. Each painting is a disclosure of a new tale and experiences.”
